Phrases exclamatives.

a)-Exclamation portant sur un adjectif ou un adverbe.

How sad they look ! Comme ils ont l’air triste!

How rough the sea was ! Comme la mer était agitée!

How fast he drives ! Comme il conduit vite!

L’adjectif ou adverbe suit immédiatement how.

b)-Exclamation portant sur un nom, qu’il soit seul ou accompagné d’un adjectif.

What a liar that boy is ! Quel menteur que ce garçon!

Remarquer l’emploi de l’article indéfini et la place du verbe.

c)-La phrase exclamative est parfois elliptique. Comme c’est drôle !

-Lili:I worked in a restaurant this summer.

-Justin:Oh yes…what was your job?

-Lili:I was a waitress.

-Justin:And? What did you have to do exactly?

-Lili:Well, I was starting at 11 and I had to do the setting up first. I was

putting the knives on the right and the forks on the left-of the plates

(taking care of the cutlery) and then, after that, I was having lunch with

the other members of the staff. At about 12, I was greeting the

customers, taking their orders and giving them their bills.

Justin: Did you like that job?

-Lili:Well, at first, I found it hard to stand still waiting for the customers

but, after a while, I got used to it and I enjoyed the contact with people

and appreciated the tips they left.
